"When my daughter was diagnosed with autoimmune type 1 diabetes, I felt very alone and she did not know anyone with that disease. When we attend the KIDZ events, it is nice to meet other families who are going through the same things that we are. It is so helpful to be able to share ideas and get advice from other parents on things that they have done or tried. For my daughter, it is the only time she is around other kids who are getting finger pokes, injections, or using pumps, and that helps her in knowing she is not the only one having to do those things. Not only is the family sharing important, but the speakers and vendors provide a lot of information too." KB |

"My oldest son who is now 6 has had diabetes for 5 years and I felt so alone...then came the KIDZ group. When I went to the first KIDZ event I was overwhelmed with the number of other families there that face the same fears, tears and triumphs we face with type 1 diabetes. I learned about new technologies from the representivies of different diabetic supply companies that make our lives so much easier. "KIDZ events provide an awesome opportunity to get additional education on how to manage my son's diabetes. The kids enjoy the activities and we get to see the latest technology and participate in sessions with educational speakers. Having events like this is important to my son because he is around other kids who have to do the exact same things he has to do. “The KIDZ Group has been a wonderful thing for our family. We have several children with our second having diabetes. The KIDZ Group has given our child with diabetes time to meet and be with other children with diabetes and has given his siblings a chance to understand better what the disease is about. It is so nice to see and talk to the vendors, when we normally would not get an opportunity to do that. Being able to listen to speakers on all subjects related to diabetes is a huge help. "When we attend a KIDZ event, I always leave having learned so much and feeling that my husband and I are not alone in raising a child with diabetes. My daughter enjoys all the new freebies she gets from the vendors. One time I looked over, and saw her sitting side-by-side another girl with diabetes, both of them looking through their new BG meter kits, so excited! This is one of the few times she gets to be with other kids with diabetes. At home, she's the only child at her school who has diabetes." --MK |

"My biggest satisfaction from a KIDZ event is leaving reassured that I'm not the only parent in the world who has a child with diabetes. There are others out there dealing with the same frustrations that I am having. It gives me a new perspective on my life as a whole with a child with diabetes. I also enjoy watching my son get excited about the new machines or things as little as new and different pokers.
